Guidelines for ABSTRACT Preparation

INTRODUCTION

These guidelines are intended to assist you with preparation of your electronic camera-ready abstract. For your convenience you can download the abstract template (in Word format) and use it to create your abstract.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT

All abstracts are to be submitted electronically in both Adobe Acrobat (PDF) and Microsoft Word format. Provide contact information, topical area, and poster/oral preference on the abstract submission form, and use the form to upload your abstract in both MS Word and PDF formats. Contact Dr. Mohamed Sawan (sawan@engr.wisc.edu) with questions or comments.

LENGTH

Use 300-500 words in the abstract text. The abstract must fit on one page (8-1/2" x 11") within the designated margins-dimensions are 6.5 inches (165 mm) by 9 inches (229 mm). Top, bottom, right, and left margins are all one inch.

ABSTRACT FORMAT

Type specifications

Twelve-point type with single spacing is required. Use Times New Roman typeface. Do not paginate.

Paragraphs

Indent each paragraph 1/4 inch. Single-space your text in single column format justified on both sides.

Title of paper

Limit title to ten words. Center the title, which should be initial capital letters (i.e., capitalize the first letter of each significant word). Use 12 pt Times New Roman typeface and boldfaced font style. Skip one line; then begin author information.

Author(s)

Limit listing authors to three or fewer if possible. Center the name(s) of author(s), which should be initial capital letters (i.e., capitalize the first letter of each name) and 12 pt Times New Roman typeface. Skip one line; then begin affiliation information.

Affiliation(s)

Use initial capital letters (i.e., capitalize the first letter of each significant word). Using italic type, center the affiliation, city, state, and email address. For authors with more than one affiliation use superscript numbers to identify affiliation of each author.

EQUATIONS

Displayed formulas should have one line of space above and below. Type equation numbers in Arabic numerals in parentheses flush with the right margin. Number displayed equations consecutively.

UNITS OF MEASURE

Use SI units. Conventional (non-SI) quantities may follow parenthetically if the author desires.

ACRONYMS

If an acronym is used more than once, define it at first use followed by the abbreviation or acronym in parentheses and then use the acronym from that point, e.g., liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) or General Electric (GE).
