Fusion Ignition Research Experiment (FIRE)

The possibility of constructing a low cost (< $1B) Fusion Ignition Research Experiment (FIRE) as Next Step Option (NSO) to address burning plasma issues is being explored. FIRE is a compact high field tokamak that utilizes cryogenically cooled copper coils. The design is in the preconceptual phase with different design options and operating scenarios being considered.
